We Know Rideshares Are A Risk

The popularity of rideshare services like Uber and Lyft is skyrocketing, but with that increased success on their part means increased risk for you. More rideshare services are on the road, and that means more instances in which you could potentially be involved in an accident. Even away from the major cities in New Jersey, you’ll find several rideshare services available.

Getting into any rideshare can be a risky proposition. The vetting process for drivers isn’t exactly comprehensive. Even so, the low prices and convenience of this form of transportation can be hard to pass up. For many in New Jersey, abstaining from rideshare services simply isn’t feasible.

Given the necessity of rideshare services for so many people, it’s easy to see how it can be frustrating to deal with such a complicated compensation program. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping victims get the compensation they deserve. We’re experts on car accident law, so we won’t let any rideshare company or insurance provider get in the way of your justified payout.

Let Us Fight For You

At Peter N. Davis & Associates, we’ve been fighting for Lodi victims against insurance companies for over 20 years. After winning over $150 million in settlements, we’re only motivated to fight harder for future victims being denied their compensation. Don’t let an insurance company or rideshare service deny you the compensation you deserve. Contact us today for a free consultation.

How Insurance Works With Rideshare Services

Rideshare companies are well aware that accidents happen, so they’ve put some contingencies in place to protect their riders, drivers, and themselves. Every rideshare service comes with insurance that is often fairly generous, but insurance companies are never eager to actually pay what they’ve promised.

To better understand how insurance works with rideshare services, it’s important to grasp the three periods of a rideshare service. The amount of coverage you have depends on which stage the ride is in:

The first period is when a rideshare driver is on the job, but there’s currently no one requesting a ride. This would include all the periods in between rides whether the driver takes a half-hour break or takes just three seconds before accepting another request after completing a ride. During this period, rideshare services provide $25,000 of coverage on property damage and $50,000 per person for medical. The maximum amount paid out here won’t exceed $100,000 regardless of actual damages incurred.

The second period begins when a driver is on their way to pick up a passenger. Specifically, this includes the time from which the rideshare driver accepts a ride request up until the time the passenger is picked up. Coverage for this period includes liability for up to $1 million.

Once the passenger is in the vehicle and the driver is taking them to their destination, period three begins. Similar to period two, coverage here caps at $1 million. This period ends once the trip is completed.

Frequently Asked Questions

To put yourself in the best position to make a great case you must know what to do before you’re involved in an accident. Remember the following steps to take in the aftermath:

  • Make sure everyone is safe
  • Call the police
  • Gather evidence including photos and witness statements
  • Report the accident to the rideshare company
  • Call Peter N. Davis & Associates

Strictly speaking, the general rule doesn’t change depending on whether you’re a driver or a passenger. If you’re injured in the accident, and the accident wasn’t your fault, you’re entitled to compensation.

The limit of your compensation is ideally enough to cover the costs of your recovery. This includes obvious costs like property damage and medical bills, but it can also include lost wages and even less quantifiable costs like pain and suffering.

When you’re recovering from an accident, your focus should be on your health, not on fighting an insurance company for compensation you’re rightly owed. Hiring a personal injury lawyer who can handle rideshare accidents takes the burden of fighting for your rights off your shoulders, so you can focus on recovery.

The best part about working with Peter N. Davis & Associates is that you don’t have to pay for anything unless we win your case. We’ll even conduct a free review of your case, so contact us today.
